6 ball blind catch by [[Marcin Hałas]]

Revision as of 00:23, 12 April 2012

A Blind catch (also called an ass catch) is a trick where an object is thrown from in front of the body and goes back over the head, and the juggler bends over and reaches between the legs from front to back and catches the object behind the back while both feet stay on the floor.

Blind catches are normally done only one at a time, rather than in a continuous pattern. The throw that goes back over the head doesn't need to be thrown any higher than the basic pattern, then all (or sometimes all but one) of the other objects are thrown extra high, to make a pause in the pattern so that there's time to bend over, do the blind catch, and stand up before resuming the pattern.

Blind catches have been done with up to 6 balls, 5 rings, and 4 clubs. The easiest way to do a blind catch with rings is with a pancake throw, and the easiest way to do a blind catch with clubs is with a (flat front) flat throw.

A body throw in reverse would be something similar to a blind catch, except the object would go back on a wider path, going over or around the shoulder instead of straight back over the head. (The term "reverse body throw" is usually used to refer to a different trick, where a club is thrown between the legs from back to front.)
