423 is the easiest symmetrical 3 object siteswap besides the basic pattern. The throwing rhythm is right, right-left, left-right, right-left, left... with a 1-beat pause between throws with the same hand. Two balls are thrown with non-crossing throws like the throws in a 4 ball fountain (4s), one staying on each side of the pattern, and the other ball is thrown across from hand to hand (3s), about half the height of the non-crossing throws. The 2 is a pause between a 4 and a 3 with the same hand, where the other hand is just holding a ball and not throwing.
The non-crossing throws can be thrown on the inside of the pattern, going under the crossing throws, or they can stay on the outside of the pattern all the time, making a columns pattern. (4,2)(4x,2)* is a slightly different way of doing 423, where all the throws are the same height and the rhythm is even: right-right-left-left-right-right-left-left...

Exercises to prepare for 423:
- 1 ball 4
- 2 ball 34
- 2 ball 403 (this should be done by starting with two balls held in one hand and throwing them one at a time, but is animated as "413" because Wikia won't link to animations with more than one ball held in one hand)
- 2 ball 3403
- 3 ball 42
- 3 ball 423
